Interactive activities and essential information highlight FURG's reception event
On the afternoon of Monday (31st), the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG) welcomed students and professionals to the event "Experiences about Africa at FURG: A moment of exchange and sharing about Africa and the Ubuntu philosophy." Held in the Estuários Room at CIDEC-Sul, the gathering was organized by the Office for International Affairs (REINTER) and the Collective of African Students at FURG (CEAFURG), as part of the university’s citizen welcome initiative. The aim was to create a space for integration, cultural exchange, and sharing of essential information for African students at the institution.
The Secretary of International Affairs, Dariano Krummenauer, opened the event by welcoming participants:
"Especially to the new students at FURG, welcome to FURG. From now on, FURG is your home, so we want you to feel at home, and we are here to support you in whatever you need."
He was followed by the Director of Student Development, Bruna Nornberg, who provided important information about student aid programs and the social assistance policies offered by the Dean of Student Affairs.
"The key message is that our connection is with you — you, the students who are here, giving life to this university," she emphasized.
The program also featured the participation of the Secretary for Affirmative Action, Inclusion, and Diversity, Ana Furlong Antochevis, and Portuguese language professor Leticia Ponso, who presented opportunities and institutional policies to support international students during their academic journey.PRAE presentation during the event "Experiences about Africa at FURG"
The event continued with activities led by the Collective of African Students, including an interactive activity about African countries and a moment of reflection on the Ubuntu Philosophy, which emphasizes solidarity and a sense of community.
One of the representatives of the Collective, Romeu Vieira, closed the event with words of thanks and noted that this welcome initiative is the result of the efforts of past African students at FURG — a way to ensure that new students do not face the same challenges their predecessors did.
