The event brought together international relations directors and managers from over 200 Brazilian higher education institutions in Brasília.
The Secretary for International Relations, Professor Dariano Krummenauer, and the Rector Suzane Gonçalves represented the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG) at the 37th Annual Conference of the Brazilian Association for International Education (FAUBAI), held from April 26 to 30, 2025. The event, which took place in Brasília, had as its central theme "Towards Equitable and Sustainable Partnerships" and welcomed representatives from higher education institutions and funding agencies from across Brazil and around the world.
Considered by the Secretary as the main event on higher education internationalization in Brazil, FAUBAI Conference 2025 featured lectures, panels, and thematic sessions focused on promoting strategic academic partnerships, student mobility, and building international cooperation networks.
Throughout the conference, representatives from top Brazilian and foreign universities took the opportunity to present their cooperation programs, strengthen existing ties, and negotiate new international agreements. FAUBAI 2025 was also marked by the reinforcement of discussions around inclusive, responsible, and sustainable internationalization, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
According to Secretary Krummenauer, FURG’s presence at FAUBAI 2025 is essential to expand academic cooperation opportunities through strategic partnerships and the reinforcement of existing connections. He highlighted the importance of direct engagement with government representatives from the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Spain, as well as with “various institutions that are here specifically to strengthen internationalization,” he said.
“The next step is to consolidate the contacts we made. We identified new partnership opportunities, potential international collaborations, and new cooperation programs, and now we are moving into the stage of consolidating those contacts made in Brasília,” Krummenauer concluded.
