The “Agasalho sem Fronteiras” initiative mobilized the academic community and the population of Rio Grande.
On July 31, the International Relations Office (REINTER) of the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG) concluded the campaign “Agasalho sem Fronteiras” (Coat Without Borders), a solidarity initiative aimed at supporting international students during the low temperatures faced this winter in Rio Grande do Sul.
In response to the intense cold fronts that hit the state, the campaign was created to ensure the well-being of students coming from countries or regions where harsh winters are uncommon. The action counted on the collaboration of the academic community and the general population, with a collection point installed at FURG’s Rectorate Building.
Throughout the campaign, the items were organized, catalogued, and distributed according to students’ needs. Constant dialogue with the students was essential to identify their main demands, especially for jackets, coats, and blankets.
In total, more than 300 clothing items were collected, including 72 sweaters, 66 pairs of pants, 25 jackets and coats, 33 blankets, as well as several other items such as scarves, shoes, shirts, and gloves. The final stage of distribution is underway, with the last items being delivered to students from both Carreiros campus and the campuses of Santa Vitória do Palmar and São Lourenço do Sul.
Part of the donations was organized into kits by the REINTER team to make delivery more practical and efficient. Items that do not meet the immediate winter needs, such as summer clothes or items of various sizes and models, will be forwarded to FURG’s University Hospital. REINTER deeply thanks everyone who contributed with donations and support to the campaign.
