The International Relations Office (REINTER) of the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG) has released the final results of the call for applications for the free virtual Spanish courses offered by Santo Tomás University (UST) in Chile, for the 2026–1 semester. The initiative is exclusively aimed at students from partner universities located in non-Spanish-speaking countries.
The courses are designed for students without Spanish proficiency, and no prior knowledge of the language is required. For following the classes, a B1 level of English is recommended, although it is not mandatory.
The synchronous classes will begin on March 16 and run until July 24, 2026, with meetings twice a week. Starting on April 4, 2026, Chile’s official time will shift to UTC-4 due to daylight saving time (dates and schedules may be subject to change).
To obtain certification, selected students must maintain a minimum attendance of 75%. Participation in the first week of classes is mandatory; students who do not attend during this period will be automatically removed from the course and replaced by candidates from the waiting list.
