New Normative Instruction regulates FURG’s representation in AUGM committees and networks

The Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG), through its Office for International Relations (REINTER), published on August 18, 2025, Normative Instruction No. 8, which establishes rules for the appointment of institutional representatives in the academic committees, disciplinary networks, chairs, and permanent commissions of the Association of Universities of the Montevideo Group (AUGM).

The document sets out the minimum requirements that faculty and technical-administrative staff must meet to participate in these regional integration spaces, which cover strategic areas such as science, technology and innovation, postgraduate studies, university outreach, communication, and artistic and cultural production, among others.

According to the instruction, representatives must demonstrate proven experience in their field, involvement in research, extension, or development projects, and submit an action plan with proposals for international mobility and academic cooperation. Selection will take place every two years through an electronic system provided by REINTER.

In addition to regulating FURG’s participation, the Normative Instruction also establishes institutional support from REINTER for representatives, including communication mediation with AUGM, dissemination of activities to the academic community, and monitoring of administrative commitments.
