New International Partnership: FURG PhD Student Undertakes Research Stay at INL (Portugal)

— ,

The Office of International Relations (REINTER) at the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG) is proud to announce another important step in strengthening the institution's international cooperation and graduate programs.

A cooperation agreement has been formalized between FURG, the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), located in Braga (Portugal), and PhD student Karoline Pereira Rodrigues, enrolled in the Graduate Program in Food Engineering and Food Science (PPGECA).

The main objective of the initiative is to supplement the PhD student's studies by providing the opportunity to undertake research and technical activities at international-level facilities, contributing directly to the completion of her doctoral thesis.

The Research Project

Under the supervision of Dr. Artur Martins (INL) and co-supervision of Prof. Dr. Mariano Michelon (FURG), the work plan developed over a 9-month period focuses on food science and engineering, with an emphasis on biopolymer-based functional materials.

The study is entitled "Rheological and tribological characterization of pullulan and pectin hybrid systems for applications in functional materials". The research ranges from training in advanced rheological and tribological characterization equipment to the preparation of hybrid systems, thermal analyses, and FTIR, thereby expanding the scientific and technological impact of FURG's academic production.

Internationalization in Focus

Agreements of this nature reaffirm FURG and REINTER's commitment to excellence in researcher training, promoting the exchange of knowledge, access to cutting-edge infrastructure abroad, and the strengthening of global scientific research networks.
