The Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG) has formalized a Cooperation Protocol with the University of Minho (UMinho), Portugal, expanding opportunities for academic, scientific, and institutional exchange between the two universities. The initiative was developed through the Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics (IMEF), with support from the Office of International Affairs (REINTER).
The agreement was signed by FURG's Rector, Prof. Dr. Suzane da Rocha Vieira Gonçalves, and the Rector of the University of Minho, Prof. Dr. Pedro Miguel Ferreira Martins Arezes, consolidating an important strategic partnership between the institutions.
The protocol aims to promote joint educational and scientific cooperation initiatives, strengthening academic ties between Brazil and Portugal while contributing to the internationalization of teaching, research, and outreach activities carried out by both universities.
The cooperation framework includes the exchange of students, faculty members, researchers, and administrative staff; the development of educational and training projects; joint supervision of doctoral theses under cotutelle arrangements; collaborative research projects; scientific publications; outreach initiatives; and the joint organization of conferences, workshops, and other academic events.
The agreement also establishes the basis for the development of specific initiatives through complementary arrangements, enabling projects in areas of mutual interest and fostering international networks for scientific and technological collaboration between the institutions.
This partnership reinforces FURG’s commitment to academic excellence, the production of internationally relevant scientific knowledge, and the development of institutional relationships that expand opportunities for education and research for its academic community.
The Cooperation Protocol will remain in force for an initial period of five years and may be renewed upon mutual agreement between the parties.
