Last Tuesday (10), the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG) took another important step in its internationalization policy by signing an Academic, Scientific, Technological, and Cultural Cooperation Agreement with the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra (IPC), Portugal.

Valid for five years and renewable, the agreement aims to strengthen cooperation ties between Brazil and Portugal, contributing to the integration of activities and research programs of mutual interest at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The partnership will benefit all fields of knowledge that present mutual interest and can contribute to achieving the goals established by both institutions.

The document provides for a wide range of joint activities, including the exchange of undergraduate and graduate students, professors, researchers, and administrative staff, through the signing of Specific Agreements. It also includes collaboration among faculty and researchers for the development of teaching, research, extension, and technological innovation projects, as well as the promotion and joint participation in scientific, technological, and cultural events such as seminars, lectures, symposiums, and academic meetings.

The cooperation also includes the development of joint programs that may lead to double degrees, in accordance with each institution’s regulations, as well as the supervision and co-supervision of master’s dissertations and doctoral theses, with participation in examination committees. The agreement also предусматриes the exchange of bibliographic materials, the development of joint research projects with international funding opportunities, the offering of courses and continuing education programs (in-person or online), and the sharing of laboratory resources and research infrastructure whenever possible and of mutual interest.

The partnership with the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra reinforces FURG’s commitment to internationalization and academic integration with leading institutions in Europe, expanding opportunities for education and research for the entire university community.
