The Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG) has signed a new international cooperation agreement with the University of Algarve (UAlg), in Portugal, within the framework of the Erasmus+ programme. The partnership is part of the ProSaúde+ project, strengthening collaboration between higher education institutions from different regions.
The inter-institutional agreement aims to promote academic mobility for students and staff, with a focus on the field of Medicine, expanding opportunities for international training and knowledge exchange. The initiative includes both student and staff mobility, encompassing study periods, teaching activities, and training actions.
According to the document, one undergraduate student mobility position is planned, along with the exchange of professors between the institutions. Staff mobility activities include in-person periods combined with virtual actions throughout the academic year, fostering the exchange of best practices, the development of pedagogical and digital skills, and the joint production of scientific publications.
The program also provides support for participants, including assistance with visa procedures, insurance, travel, and academic integration, as well as actions focused on inclusion and diversity. Participant selection will follow transparent criteria and consider not only academic performance but also equity of access and inclusion of students with fewer opportunities.
Another highlight of the agreement is the commitment to academic recognition of activities carried out abroad, ensuring the validation of credits earned during mobility, in accordance with the principles of the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).
The partnership is coordinated by the Association of Portuguese Language Universities (AULP), responsible for project management and logistical and financial support for participants, including scholarships and mobility organization.
With this initiative, FURG strengthens its participation in international teaching and research networks, particularly within the Lusophone space, promoting the internationalization of academic training and contributing to scientific development in the health field.
