The Office of International Relations (REINTER) at the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG) celebrates a significant milestone for the institution: FURG features the largest delegation in its history selected to represent the university at the 33rd Young Researchers Meeting of the Association of Universities of the Montevideo Group (JJI-AUGM). The international event is hosted in Brazil this year by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in Porto Alegre, taking place from October 20 to 23, 2026.

The Meeting brings together hundreds of students, scholarship holders, and young researchers from various universities across Latin America to promote scientific exchange, academic integration, and the dissemination of knowledge produced in the region. This expressive student representation reflects the advancement and consolidation of academic excellence, the impact of the research developed at FURG, and institutional alignment with the thematic axes proposed by AUGM, reaffirming a continuous commitment to internationalization and the strengthening of Latin American science.

Expectations and Statements from the Delegation

International experience, the exchange of experiences with researchers from different nationalities, and the opportunity to present scientific papers of regional relevance generate high expectations among the students making up this historic delegation:

Amanda Cardoso:

"So much pride in FURG and such an honor to be able to represent it at the 33rd AUGM Young Researchers Meeting, an international event hosted in Brazil this year, which brings together young researchers from Latin America! I am eager to get a close look at the research developed across different Latin American universities and to accompany the dialogues that arise when we put our knowledge into circulation. Democratizing access to the cultural heritage historically built by humanity is also defending everyone's right to knowledge. May science continue to bring our peoples closer together, crossing borders and strengthening our ties. After all, language is also history and culture. For a united and alive Latin America! For the science of Abya Yala."
Nicoly Olegário:

"I am very anxious about the 33rd JJI event, and feeling a bit nervous, as it is my first time presenting a scientific paper at an AUGM event and at an international level. I believe this is a very important opportunity for knowledge integration and the creation of academic networking and strengthening in our Latin American region. I hope my article 'Integralidade, Equidade e Saúde Coletiva: possíveis impactos do racismo no acesso ao diagnóstico de Transtorno do Espectro Autista (TEA) no Brasil' can contribute to the discussion on social intersections in health within the different management perspectives in public and private health systems across the countries comprising the AUGM university network."
Paulo Madson:

"For this event, expectations are always high. I went once before, in 2023, which was my first international event and my first experience. On that occasion, I went to Paraguay, visited Asunción, and made many friends. I believe this really drives academic life, besides making you socialize with colleagues from other countries and learn about different works."
Thiago Gomes:

"I have great expectations for the event, as it brings back the feeling that we will find a better tomorrow! A future where the paths of our lives are ours to decide!"
The expressive presence of the FURG academic community at the JJI-AUGM consolidates the university's prominent role in producing high-impact regional knowledge and in permanently fostering cross-border scientific cooperation.
