FURG formalizes its first cooperation agreement with a Syrian institution

The Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG), through its International Affairs Office (REINTER), has formalized a new academic, scientific, technological, and cultural cooperation agreement with Al-Hawash Private University (HPU), an institution located in Syria. The signing represents a historic milestone for the University’s internationalization efforts, as it is the first agreement established by FURG with a Syrian institution.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by FURG Rector Suzane da Rocha Vieira Gonçalves and HPU President Prof. Dr. Ali Abo Sulaiman, establishing the basis for future cooperative actions between the institutions.

The agreement foresees the development of joint initiatives in several areas of knowledge, including the exchange of students, faculty members, and researchers, the development of research projects, participation in scientific and cultural events, as well as the possibility of creating shared academic programs and technological innovation initiatives.

The partnership also includes activities such as joint supervision of graduate research, sharing of laboratory infrastructure, development of continuing education programs and courses, and the joint pursuit of international funding for academic projects.

The partnership reinforces FURG’s commitment to expanding its international presence and building cooperation networks aimed at promoting intercultural dialogue, scientific production, and collaboration among institutions from different regions of the world.

The agreement will remain valid for an initial period of five years and may be renewed upon mutual interest of the parties.
